Prerequisites & Recommended Undergraduate Courses

Prerequisites

Prerequisites for the DPH program are a demonstrated background or training in a biological or related science discipline with a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or a Master of Science:

  • Math - one semester beyond college algebra
  • Chemistry - one semester
  • Physics - one semester
  • Biological Sciences - two semesters
  • An additional semester of either physics or chemistry

Applicants not meeting these requirements will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Deficiencies may need to be addressed by taking undergraduate courses that will not count toward the DPH degree. For more information on admission requirements contact: Program Director, Dr. Jeff Bradshaw at  jbradshaw2@unl.edu

Recommended Undergraduate Courses

Students who plan to enroll in the Doctor of Plant Health (DPH) Program should have many of the following courses or their equivalent as undergraduates. These courses are not required as prerequisites, but the more of them that have been taken, the better prepared the student is to begin the DPH Program. It is recognized that students from some institutions will have had little or no access to some of these courses. Lack of these courses may not affect the admission of the student into the DPH Program, but the student may need to remedy the most important deficiencies to provide a more balanced background from which to complete the DPH core. Some deficiency courses may be taken at the graduate level to receive credit toward the DPH degree.
