Thomas Wilbur Davis
DPH Graduate Student
Thomas Wilbur Davis is from River Gee, Southeastern Liberia. Before joining the Doctor of Plant Health program, he worked for the Liberian Ministry of Justice, where he provided correctional services and rehabilitated offenders through adult literacy and agricultural production programs that he initiated at Harper Central Prison.
Thomas received his BSc. in General Agriculture from William V. S. Tubman University in 2019, and completed his MSc. in Horticultural Science in 2022 from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Alnarp. His practical experience in the program includes internships at Midwest Research Inc., where he conducted agronomic research trials including pesticide and fertilizer efficacy tests, GMO trait assessments, and gained experience in research plot management and data collection techniques. At aerialPLOT, he worked with multispectral drone imagery for agricultural applications, developed skills in UAV-based digital plant phenotyping, and disease assessment.
Thomas is concerned about the challenges facing global food production. His goal is to contribute to global food security by providing extension services and developing efficient production systems for sustainable agriculture in both public and private sectors. He is interested in advancing knowledge through the development and application of tools that integrate remote sensing technology, field conditions, and molecular assessment to effectively diagnose and manage viral infections in crops.
He believes that the interdisciplinary approach of the Doctor of Plant Health program will equip him with the tools needed to address complex plant health issues and agricultural challenges that are essential to meeting the world's growing food demand.
