I am a soil scientist with technical expertise in soil conservation, soil physics, agroecology, soil organic matter dynamics, and biogeochemical cycling in terrestrial ecosystems. I specialize in developing, and implementing, pathways to create resilient agriculture systems that account for varied environmental, sociocultural, and historical contexts, using innovative methodologies and appropriate technologies.

At UNL, I teach and mentor graduate students, at both the masters (MAS, MS) and doctoral levels (PhD, DPH), on ways to deepen their scientific knowledge of agriculture, expand global awareness of agricultural challenges, and refine critical thinking abilities. My intentions are to empower students with the skillsets needed to tackle ecological solution development across community and global scales. As part of this process, I guide individual students in understanding how their specialized scientific knowledge can influence societal implications and how understanding system histories aid in overcoming hurdles to food system advancement and environmental resilience.

I teach three graduate-level courses in an online, asynchronous format that allows involvement and active participation from students with diverse experiences, expertise, and life schedules. My courses center around grasping the full scientific, historical, social, and civil context that shapes present issues impacting modern agriculture systems, natural resource use, and the associated human experiences.

Courses (online, asynchronous):

  • AGRI/NRES 930 – Conservation Agriculture Systems (3 credits, Fall semesters)
  • AGRI/NRES 945 – Resilience Design in Agriculture (3 credits, Fall semesters)
  • AGRI/NRES 950– International Applications of Conservation Agriculture (3 credits, Spring semesters)

Education

  • Ph D, University of Arkansas, 2012
  • MEd, Middle Tennessee State University, 2007
  • BS, Middle Tennessee State University, 2006
